JSI Taber¢ē
LINEAR ABRASER

CONTOURED SURFACE TESTING

Taber Linear Abraser Model

JSI Taber¢ē Linear Abraser Model
The Linear Abraser is the first wear and scratch tester to measure the abrasion resistance of finished products of any size or shape - flat, concave, or convex.
The new Linear Abraser uses a free-floating head to follow the contours of every sample, permitting testing of finished products. With virtually no limit on sample size or shape, the Linear Abraser is ideal for testing plastics, automotive components, painted parts, printed graphics, optical products, rubber, leather, textiles, and for use in testing laboratories.

Maintain consistent testing standards with JSI Taber¢ē 's world-famous abrasives.
The Linear Abraser abrades with a Wearaser™. The size and shape of a pencil eraser, the Wearaser uses the high-quality JSI Taber¢ē abrasive media found in their world-famous wheels so you're assured of consistent test results.

Versatile wear and scratch testing with a single rugged, durable machine.
With adjustable stroke length, speed, load, and a wide selection of JSI Taber¢ē Wearasers, the Linear Abraser allows you to customize test parameters to your exact needs. An optional sample table provides additional flexibility for small or odd-shaped samples. Plus, optional attachments convert the Linear Abraser to a Scratch Tester or a Crockmeter.

SPECIFICATIONS

Conforms to the following Specifications:

  • ASTM D-6279
  • ASTM F1319
  • ISO 105-X12
GENERAL

The Linear Abraser incorporates a "free-floating head" that strokes in a linear motion and can test virtually any size or shape specimen. Adjustable settings enable the user to select stroke length, speed, and load. Plus, interchangeable attachments can be used to convert the instrument from a Wear Tester to a Scratch Tester; Crock Meter; or custom configuration. When used as a wear tester, a ¼" wide wear path is generated from 0.5" to 4" in length.

RUN and REFACE MODES

For testing convenience, a separate REFACE mode is included to allow the user to reface the Wearaser™ abrader. This eliminates the need to reprogram the number or cycles, and avoids adding additional strokes to the counter during a test. The REFACE mode is displayed on the counter as 'SET 2.' During normal testing, the Linear Abraser should be set to RUN mode (displayed as SET 1). Both modes are user adjustable from 0 to 999,999 cycle counts.

ACCESSORIES & ABRADANTS

Abradants

Wearaser Abrader

The choice of abrading materials should be based upon the wear the specimen material will be subjected to in actual use. Under ordinary conditions, a load and abradant combination should run a minimum number of cycles before the end point occurs. If not, the test may be too harsh and may not correspond to normal wear.

The Wearaser™ is available in different levels of abrasiveness to suit a wide range of testing applications.

Wearaser™ Abrader

Wearaser™ The standard JSI Taber¢ē ® Linear Abraser is equipped to abrade with a Wearaser™. Made from the same abrasive Calibrase® and Calibrade® material as the world famous JSI Taber¢ē Wheels, this abradant is the size and shape of a pencil eraser and has approximately 1/4" diameter contact patch

Calibrase® - a resilient material composed of rubber and aluminum oxide abrasive particles.

Calibrade® - a non-resiliant material composed of vitrified (stone) and silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive particles.

Diamond Coated - a steel pin is coated with a diamond particle slurry. Grit sizes from 30 grit (harsh abrasive action) to 200 grit (extra fine abrasive action) are available.

Crocking Cloths This 50 x 50 mm pre-cut cloth is typically used to determine the color fastness of textiles, and requires the Crock Meter Kit.

Refacing Strips Sold in packages of 50 pieces, the refacing strips are used to redress the face of most Linear Abraser abradants. Manufactured with a pressure sensitive adhesive backing, the refacing strips can easily be applied to flat or contoured surfaces.

Accessories

Universal Kit

Universal Kit
Perform "real-world" testing by attaching our own abradant, or one of yours. The Universal Kit is ideal for testing flat on flat surfaces.

Diamond Scratch Tool Diamond Scratch Tool
The Diamond Scratch Tool's cutting edge is the converging point from three sides and edges of a perfect cube.

Crock Meter Kit Crock Meter Kit
The Crock Meter Kit is typically used to evaluate color fastness (transfer) on textile products. The kit includes a 0.625" acrylic finger, clamp ring and package of crocking cloths

Sample Table, Flat Flat Specimen Table
Rigid, flat specimens are mounted to this table using four (4) adjustable mounting nuts. A leveling bubble and adjustable feet height can be used to ensure your table surface is parallel to the work area.

Vacuum Vise
This versatile specimen table has adjustable jaws that open 2½" to accommodate contoured specimens or custom fixtures. An integral vacuum base locks the vise to your worktable.

45° Adjustable Vacuum Vise
Adjustable clamp jaws open approximately to a maximum of 6", and can be pivoted 45°. An integral vacuum base locks the vise to your worktable.

Auxiliary Weight
The standard minimum load for the Linear Abraser is 350g. Using the 250g weight discs that are included (3 each), the load can be increased to 1,100g. Additional 250g weight discs can be purchased to increase the load to a maximum of 1,600g.
