Key System Features

Reflectorless Motorized Laser Scanning System

The Advantage ALS is a state-of-the-art three dimensional laser scanning system which allows a single operator to quickly acquire relative position to any target or surface with out the need of prisms, targets or retro-reflectors.

The Advantage ALS can be set-up in hostile environments and operated remotely, which makes it possible to survey dangerous or inaccessible surfaces up to 600 meters (2,000 ft.) away, to within an accuracy of ¡¾15 cm (0,5 ft.) All Advantage ALS models feature an eye-safe pulsed laser rangefinger with both horizontal and vertical angle encoders with resolution of ¡¾0.01¡Æ.

Motorized scanning at user specified increments (either by CHORD or ARC definition) allows an entire rock face, stockpile, topographical feature, structure, etc. to be surveyed in minutes, without operator error or intervention. The Advantage ALS System has 128K of internal memory and an optional PCMCIA slot for a 128K memory card, which allows the operator to transfer data without interruption to the survey. Data can be processed using our comprehensive Face 3D profiling software or Volume 4 software. Data from Face 3D software will provide blasting engineers with a wealth of information to analyze rock faces.

ALS Remote Control Software

The optional ALS Remote Control Keyboard Software (ALSRCK) is a windows based program that will control the ALS instrument by sending commands and processing its measurement data from a remote computer. The ALSRCK software has been designed to emulate, as closely as possible, the operation of the ALS keyboard via a PC. The ideal environment for this software program is in situations where it is hazardous or dangerous for the ooperator to control the ALS using its integral keyboard. The ALSRCK software allows the user to move the ALS up, down, left and/or right at any degree increment. It will also fix specific points and log them to a PC file with codes, perform rectangular autoscans over a defined area and log the autoscan observations to a PC file.

Easy-To-Use Scanning System

The Advantage ALS is ergonomic designed in order to reduce operator fatigue. The Advantage ALS system requires minimal training, but offers all the capabilities needed to scan complex feature and/or structures. The built-in programs of the ALS systems prompts the operator through every step necessary to complete an autoscan. The ALS System is equipped with a standard tribrach which will allow the system to mount on any type of modern surveyor's tripod. The patented HUD (Head-Up-Display) allows for accurate targeting with range information displayed for instantaneous reviews by the operator.

State-Of-The-Art Technology

Reliable, digital robotic technology provides fast and accuracy data acquisition. The built-in RS232 data port lets the Advantage ALS communicate with dataloggers, personal PC and/or palm top computers. An optional PCMCIA slot allows data output to PC data cards. The internal memory is protected by a backup NiCad battery that should last four to five years.

The Autoscanning feature of the Advantage ALS allows the operator to select either horizontal or vertical scans up to 3,600 points per hour. Scanning intervals can be as small as 1cm x 1cm (2,5 x 2,5 in.) which will ensure excellent definition of high walls, caves, tunnels or any other adnormalities in strutures and/or features.

Upgrade Existing Advantage/Profiler Systems

The mounting cradle of the ALS Yoke is designed to accept either an Advantage laser rangefinger or any model of the Profiler series manufactured by Laser Atlanta. By purchasing an ALS Yoke System an existing Advantage or Profiler laser rangefinger can be upgraded to a complete ALS Scanning System WITHOUT losing any existing system features and/or benefit (such as handheld, tripod mount, or GPS interface capabilities.)

Complete System

Each Advantage ALS System consists of  a detachable, hand held, eye-safe laser rangefinger mounted on a field rugged robotic scanning yoke with central processing unit (CPU) with a backlit LCD, numeric keypad, RS232 interface port with download cable, 12V battery pack with AC charger, hard-shell transportation case, user's manual and a copy of MDL Convert software for downloading data to a PC.
