The Clegg Impact Soil Tester in an impact testing device used to measure the "stiffness" of natural or constructed soil conditions. A known mass, the Clegg Hammer, is dropped from a fixed distance and deceleration is measured as the hammer hits the ground. Four successive trials give you the Clegg Impact Value which correlates directly with the California Bearing Ratio, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) # 5874, the Texas Class Number and Elastic Modulus.

For construction, the Clegg is used to test the full range of soils and soft rocks you typically encounter during construction of flexible pavements and earthworks. The Clegg is perfect for measuring peak strength because no weighing and drying is required. Using the Clegg is quick and easy.

For sports surfaces, the Clegg is the "instrument of choice" for both natural and artificial turf (ASTM # F1702-96). Use it for horse racing, football, soccer, golf or wherever soil hardness needs to be controlled for safety or playability.

Each test can be completed in less than 30 seconds by site personnel with  minimal training. Constructed with a hardened steel hammer inside a durable aluminum tube, the Clegg will give you years of reliable, accurate service

The Clegg comes in four different hammer weights for all types of soils and field applications.
